Stormy Weather II

August 19, 2020 3 Comments

SWI

There was a fuss after Stormy Weather.  A colleague got in touch to ask if my twitter feed had been hacked – he’d been copied in on some weird stuff.

I went on twitter to check – I rarely check things out.  And noticed 250 notifications – the first few of which were all about Fake News and the like and seemed semi-angry and semi-amused.  It turned out there were only 250 because I never looked at notifications before and after the first few about Stormy the rest were just old.

Another colleague got in touch and said she didn’t dare to look what the reaction had been like.  And still hasn’t dared.

In the middle of all this, access to the dashboard for the blog crashed.  It felt like a warning that I’d been cut off from all human contact and cast into outer darkness.

Which left me wondering what if any place is left for sarcasm in today’s social media world.   Would Jonathan Swift have been able to write Gulliver’s Travels now?

And yet there is a curious mix – the TV series The Deuce can appear, show some terrible stuff but still humanise prostitution.  You can say something like this shouldn’t be humanised and maybe in some sense it shouldn’t but still something was gained by this act of imagination.

The dashboard crash seems to have been a wordpress update gone wrong – but just at the wrong time.

So here’s part two of Stormy Weather.

Stormy Weather

Don’t know why
There’s no sun up in the sky
Stormy weather
Since my man and I ain’t together
Keeps rainin’ all the time

Life is bare
Gloom and misery everywhere
Stormy weather
Just can’t get my poor self together
I’m weary all the time, the time
So weary all the time

When he went away, the blues walked in and met me
If he stays away, old rocking chair will get me
All I do is pray the Lord above will let me
Walk in the sun once more

Can’t go on
All I have in life is gone
Stormy weather
Since my man and I ain’t together
Keeps rainin’ all the time
Keeps rainin’ all the time

I walk around, heavy-hearted and sad
Night comes around, I’m still feelin’ bad
Rain pourin’ down, blindin’ every hope I had
This pitterin’, patterin’, beatin’ and spatterin’ drives me mad
Love, love, love, love
This misery is just too much for me

Can’t go on
Everything I had is gone
Stormy weather
Since my man and I ain’t together
Keeps rainin’ all the time
Keeps rainin’ all the time

Dominate

This image is inspired by a presidential call to dominate American cities and the fact that the scuttlebutt about Donald and Stormy had her in dominatrix mode.

For balance, of course, we need one about Joe also.  Although its not clear that waiting on either man or even Ms Harris is likely to do anyone, female or male, with sexual dysfunction much good.

Joe is unfortunately not live.  When uploaded this version stops swinging his head and foot from side to side as he sings, with the words printing out as he does.  So the words are included here.

Biden my time
Till a cure comes along
Stormy Weather
Since my manhood and I
ain’t together

An all singing all dancing version can be found on twitter.

Bad Associations

Its 100% certain that some, perhaps many, perhaps most people with PSSD, PFS, PRSD, PGAD won’t want to be associated with these images or posts. This is completely understandable, perhaps even the right approach.

Most people with PSSD and related conditions also don’t want their name in the public domain.  Sensitive to this issue, when emailing people from RxISK we have done so individually meaning we send hundreds of individual emails every time we want to get in touch with people rather than just 1.

If people remain invisible and never say or do anything that disturbs anyone, where is the incentive going to come from for anyone to make a difference?

The women and men with AIDs came out and put their names in front of people and created street and public activism – doing some pretty shocking things.  They did it in part because AIDs seemed a death sentence.

Many have already died from PSSD and related conditions.   At some point, we face a Here We Stand We can do No Other moment.

Bygone images

The originals of these posters were all produced in World War II to scare troops away from associating with European women. There are lots more of them that could be adapted.  There is a deliberate pun in the reworked Going Home image.

    Confused?

There is close to 10% of the population of most countries totally unaware they run a serious risk of PSSD and PGAD – we need to wake the sleep-walkers up https://davidhealy.org/stormy-weather-ii/ @Pgtzsche1 @openexcellence @abelnovoa @jojoryan @RxISK

Might be an idea to add 56 to Jo Jo although Wai’s pics have a curious association..
